Golf is a walking sport. In the early days of golf, players carried their clubs.
Courses designed before the advent of golf carts have a short walk from the green to the next tee. A regulation golf course is about 5 miles long from the first tee to the 18th green.
The electric golf cart was first manufactured during World War II, when gasoline was rationed. It was originally designed to allow women to go shopping and bring their groceries home. Soon golf courses discovered it, and before long little electric golf carts were widespread.
