In the CFAG event Dec. 21 at Farmstead, John Ogden, Ned Meier, Bob Jaeger and a draw placed first with a 152. Team scoring was two nets per hole. Steve Maiorca, John Ducey, Sid Pennington and a draw placed second.

On Dec. 23 at Meadowlands, Frank Janton, Jerry Rubin, Joe Meo and a draw placed first with a 136. Teams scored three nets on the par-3s, two on the par-4s and one on par-5s. Placing second were Ned Meier, John Ogden, Jody Serensits and Bob Jaeger.

BRICK LANDING

The Brick Landing Men’s Sports Club weekly tournament was played Dec. 15. The format was two best nets. First: Dave Biesack, Jim Campana, Eric Nelson and a draw at -28. Second: Jim Barrett, Chuck Dixon, Alan Morrissey and a draw at -26. Skins: Jim Campana, Dwight Christenbury and Neil Nucci, one each; Chuck Dixon and Dick Brown, two each.

The format Monday was two best balls. In first at 3 under were Howard Boyd, Ralph Trimmer and Dave Harper. In second at 3 over were Bob Nobes, Gary McDaniel and Chuck Horfeck.

BEACHCOMBERS

Results of the Beachcombers’ event in which the format was two low nets. Paul Michal, Stu Cleveland, Bob Byrne and Hal Riebesehl finished first at 11 under. Bob Smith, Jim Ritter Jim Beairsto and a draw were second at 9 under. Low gross: Michal, 86. Low nets: Byrne, 70; Michal, 73. Golfer of the week: Michal.

On Dec. 7 at Farmstead, Sid Pennington, Ned Meier, John Ducey and Joe Gallo were first with a 148. Teams scored two nets per hole. Jim Kennedy, Hugh Chinn, John Ogden and Jody Serensits were second.

Every year, there are scientific improvements to the game of golf. Heavy steel shafts have been replaced by graphite and other light-composite materials. Real wooden woods have gone the way of stick shift cars and rotary telephones. Golf balls go farther and they can stick on a green like a dart if you hit them right.

But the latest, biggest innovation to the world of golf is the range finder or GPS system. A few years ago, they were rare. Today, many serious golfers have them. Some courses even provide GPS systems on their carts.
