BEACHCOMBERS

The Beachcombers played at Sandpiper Bay (format was team low nets, one on par-5s, two on par-4s, three on par-3s). Winning on a match of cards on second hole with a score of 116 were Larry Bollinger, Hal Riebesehl, Dan O’Connell and Stu Cleveland. Low gross: Paul Mical and Stu Cleveland, 84; Bob Byrne and Jim Beairsto, 85. Low nets: Beairsto, 66; Michal, 67; Byrne, Cleveland and Bollinger, 68. Golfer of the week was Paul Michal.

BRICK LANDING

North Carolina is a fabulous state. The east has hundreds of miles of beaches and hundreds of golf courses. The rolling hills of the midlands boasts horse farms, thriving cities, university complexes and more golf courses.

The far western part of the state is mountainous. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park straddles the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, and has more golf courses.

The Beachcombers played at Carolina Shores (team two low nets each hole). In first at 28-under par were Stu Cleveland, Paul Michal and Jim Beairsto. In second at 23 under were Bob Smith, Ed Kinney and Bill Cameron. Low gross: Cleveland, 75; Michal, 83; Ed Kinney, 87; Beairsto, 89. Low nets: Cleveland, 59; Cameron, 64; Kinney, 65; and Michal, 66. Golfer of the week was Cleveland.

BRICK LANDING LGA

I’d heard rumors about him, whispers in the locker room, hushed conversations in the 19th Hole Grill. Was he really as good as they said he was? Did he really have that perfect swing? Could he hit 75 balls in a row without a miss? Did he possess the stamina to pound ball after ball in the 90-degree heat?

The answer is a resounding, Yes!

Ty Walker is the 2-year-old son of Brian and Crystal Walker of Brick Landing Plantation. I met him and his parents at the practice area last Thursday.
