Brunswick Plantation MGA results Dec. 18. The format was two-man Stableford with minuses. Magnolia-Dogwood side: 1. Rick Pesenvento and Rich Davis, +16; 2. Lee Marsh and Frank Suppa, +8; 3. Gabby Grant and John Walsh, +7; 4. Andy Symka and Butch Cadman, +2; 5. Dennis Radke and Barry Anshell +2 (card match). Dogwood-Azalea side: 1. Bob Toeppner and Wyman Shaw, +8; 2. On Sept. 12, 2002, I wrote my first golf column for The Brunswick Beacon. Counting back in time, that’s more than 535 columns.
It all began when a group from Brick Landing was attempting to buy the golf course. Because I had been a freelance writer for most of my life, the committee asked me to help with public relations (press releases, letters and advertisements).   

On Dec. 12, the Ocean Ridge Men’s Golf Association played its annual Bah Humbug Tournament on Panther’s Run. The format was a four-player “shamble,” in which the best drive was chosen on each hole and then each player hit his second and subsequent shots from that point. Tee placements were in sand traps, woods, behind trees and on sides of hills. Four of the holes required putting with a shovel, a sledge hammer and various configurations of pipe. Two net scores per hole counted for the team score.  

Every year, I am amazed by The First Tee of Brunswick County. Started in 2006, the chapter keeps growing, impacting more children and changing more lives.  
I’d heard rumors of expansion and I needed to get an update from Rusty and Carol Petrea (founders of The First Tee of Brunswick County) and from Rebecca Albin, the executive director.
Here’s the scoop: Our chapter has grown and become regional. It is now one of the top chapters in the United States. We mentor other chapters and provide a template for their growth by our success.
