Last Saturday, Crow Creek was busy with serious-looking men of various ages heading for the practice tee and the putting green, clubs in hand. Greetings were called out, handshakes were given, but everyone had his game face on.

The Amateur Tour had come to Brunswick County.

I roamed around and chatted with the guys while I was waiting to speak with John Livoti, the tour director.

OCEAN RIDGE COUPLES

Ocean Ridge Couples played a two-best-nets match (one from the men and one from the ladies) on May 25 on Panther’s Run.

The winning team was Bob and Grace Bradicich and Walter and Carole Milnichuk (blind draw) at -23.

In second were Walter and Carole Milnichuk and Tom and Marie Best at -18 (match of cards). In third were Frank and Dusty Burianek and Don and Peggy Rowland at -18. In fourth were George James and Ann Turner and Lynn and Bev Furman at -16 (match of cards). In fifth were Bob and Jane Kirkpatrick and Howard and Ruth Ray at -16.

HOLES-IN-ONE

Making a hole-in-one is a difficult feat, but six area residents did just that recently.

Terry G. Draper of Carolina Shores made a hole-in-one May 30 at Sandpiper Bay Golf and Country Club.

Draper used a 3-hybrid at the 164-yard third hole. The hole-in-one was witnessed by Joseph Mosser.

Loretta DeVita of Sunset Beach made a hole-in-one April 8 at Sea Trail Resort. DeVita used a pitching wedge at the 60-yard fifth hole. The hole-in-one was witnessed by James Mitchum.

Meadowlands Missfits

The Missfits played Farmstead May 12. The game was take all Par 5’s back to par.

Sally Davis was first with 56. Wilma Mowery was second with 58. Anna Hackathorn finished third with 60. Kaz Radtclife was fourth with 62. Penny Crawford took fifth with 66. Linda Jones, Sue Hobgood and Marlene Lidgard tied for sixth with 67.

Birdies were recorded by Myriam LaConte (No. 6), Anna Hackathorn (Nos. 2 and 3) and Kaz Ratclife (Nos. 9 and 12).

Chip-ins were recorded by Anna Hackathorn (No. 2) and Wilma Mowery (No. 13).
