    SHALLOTTE — The West Brunswick and North Brunswick wrestling teams competed in a quad Nov. 24 with South View and Purnell Swett.

    West beat South View 49-24  and beat North 55-24. South View beat North 55-18.

  • West, South swimmers reach...

    BOLIVIA — Thirteen South Brunswick swimmers and four West Brunswick swimmers automatically qualified for regional events in a meet Nov. 18 at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center.

    The regional is in February and is a qualifier for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state meet. This meet was the first of the season in which swimmers could qualify for the regional.

    Myatt Snider was first in the 200-lap race and earned $15,000.

    Valley Star Credit Union 300 winner Tommy Lemons Jr. was second and earned $5,000.

    Lee Pulliam finished third and earned $4,000.

    Myrtle Beach Speedway track champion Sam Yarbrough, No. 20, who started eighth, finished fourth and earned $3,500.

    SHALLOTTE — The West Brunswick girls’ basketball team lost its season opener 41-35 to Wilmington Christian in a non-conference game Nov. 17.

    For West, sophomore Logan Locklear scored 10 points. Sophomore Jaida Allen scored 10 points and had eight steals. Sophomore Natyra Gore scored seven points and had seven rebounds. Junior Kaitlyn Bellamy had six rebounds. Senior Myyah Brown and freshman Breanna Mercer each scored four points.

    Brunswick Community College sophomore Nick Yarbrough signed a letter of intent Nov. 18 to attend Campbell University and play baseball.

    In 41 games last season, Yarbrough batted .340, according to NJCAA statistics. He walked 10 times and his OBP was .384. He had 28 RBIs and scored 29 runs. He hit 13 doubles and one home run. He walked 10 times and scored 29 runs.

    A third baseman, Yarbrough had 105 chances and made nine errors, a fielding average of .914.
