For 35 years, Mickey Crowley ran up and down the basketball court as a referee, officiating in some of the biggest college basketball games in the country.

Now, the 83-year-old sits in his Carolina room at his home in Crow Creek and watches a squirrel run back and forth in the backyard.

Crowley, a native of Queens, N.Y., is a member of six halls of fame and is widely regarded as one of the best college basketball officials of all time.

The accolades, however, haven’t stopped rolling as a trio of Trojans received all-district and all-state recognition last week.

Rising junior Morgan Beeler and graduates McKenzie Benton and Haley Long made the 3A All-District and All-State teams, according to the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association.
