    SHALLOTTE — West Brunswick senior Myah Morse signed a letter of intent Dec. 1 to play softball at Meredith College.

    “I take pitching lessons with the softball coach (Kim Scavone),” Morse said. “I just really love her and she’s helped me a lot. I can’t wait to see how much better I’m going to get.

    “I’ve gained a lot of speed and accuracy. I’m getting more control and spin on all of my pitches.”

  • Joseph White becomes part of...

    Joseph “Jo Jo” White has received another honor in recognition of his football career at Livingstone College.

    White, a native of Southport and a resident of Leland, was inducted into the Commemorative Classic Hall of Fame on Nov. 6. This hall of fame, established in 2009, honors those who have played in the football game between Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith University. The two schools first played each other in 1892.

  • Compass Pointe to open in spring

    Lots of great things are happening in Brunswick County Golf. Rivers Edge installed new greens this past summer; Lockwood Folly is building a new clubhouse that will open next year. Sandpiper Bay, Carolina Shores and other courses are renovating.

    And that’s not all. A new course, Compass Pointe, will open next spring in Leland.

    I recently have been forced to look at the calendar almost every day to reassure myself we are in December. Temperatures have stayed in high 60s and, compared with the monsoons of October, we have stayed fairly dry. With all this great weather, the fish really don’t have a reason to migrate, which leaves fishermen of Brunswick county with another great week of fall fishing.

    West beat South View 49-24  and beat North 55-24. South View beat North 55-18.

    After an exhaustive search and many interviews, The First Tee of Brunswick County has hired a new executive director: Don Hall.

    Hall brings a wealth of experience to the organization. He is a graduate of Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash., with a major in education and a minor in human services.

    His father was in the Air Force, and while growing up, Hall lived all over the United States and the world, including Bangkok, Thailand.
