  • BCC sweeps Patrick Henry in...

    BOLIVIA — The Brunswick Community College baseball team Patrick Henry Community College 17-12 in nine innings and 8-7 in nine innings in a doubleheader Saturday at Founders Field.

    In the first game, BCC hit four home runs: a solo home run by Joel McDaniel, a solo home run by Zach Johnson and two two-run home runs by Tyler Schneider. Schneider’s second home run was on a 3-0 pitch.

  • Meeting to discuss starting BCC...

    Talk may lead to action after a meeting 7 p.m. May 4 at the Odell Williamson Auditorium annex to discuss a BCC softball program.

    “This is for anyone interested in starting softball at Brunswick Community College,” BCC Athletic Director Robbie Allen said.

    “We’ve already had two meetings,” he said. “We want to see the interest level.”

    Apparently, the interest has been building for some time.

  • Cougars beat Trojans 6-3 in...

    SHALLOTTE — The South Brunswick boys’ lacrosse team beat West Brunswick 6-3 in a Mideastern 3A/4A Conference game Friday in Shallotte.

    South is 2-8 in the conference, 2-10 overall. Both of its victories have been against West. The Trojans are 0-10 in the conference, 1-13 overall.

    South led 4-1 after the first quarter. The Trojans scored the first goal when the South goalkeeper flipped the ball into his net as he was trying to clear. Bailey Gentle was credited with the goal.

  • West Brunswick beats South...

    SHALLOTTE — The West Brunswick girls’ lacrosse team beat South Brunswick 18-1 in a Mideastern 3A/4A Conference game Friday at West.

    Six Trojans scored, none of them seniors, as West completed a season sweep of the Cougars.

    West is 4-6 in the conference, 6-8 overall. South is 0-14 overall.

    BOILING SPRING LAKES — West Brunswick beat South Brunswick 3-0 in a Mideastern 3A/4A Conference girls’ soccer game at South.

    West junior fullback Mia Adcock scored three goals in the first half as the Trojans improved to 3-5-1 in the conference, 9-5-1 overall. South is 2-5, 5-7-1. The victory gave West the lead over South among the 3A teams in the conference.

    Although Adcock’s primary role is as a defender, she showed she can play just as well at forward.

  • MEC golf finishes regular season

    South Brunswick freshman Walker Isley finished third and teammate Xavier Williams fourth in a conference match April 18 at Landfall.

    Isley shot a 76 and Williams a 79 on the 6,681-yard, par-72 Dye Course.

    For West, junior Spencer Faircloth shot an 80, senior Austin Ayock an 85 and senior Tucker Vaughan an 87.

    New Hanover’s Brad Mickle and Jackson Tyler were co-medalists, each shooting a 75.

    New Hanover won the seven-team match (313).  Class 3A teams finished third, fourth and fifth: Topsail (344), West (345) and South (346).

  • North Brunswick girls, boys win...

    LELAND — North Brunswick won the girls’ and boys’ county championships in track and field April 19 at Garry Bishop Stadium.

    North’s girls won 11 events and scored 102.5 points. South Brunswick won seven events and was second (60) and West Brunswick last (12.5).

    North’s boys won 13 events and scored 103.5 points. South won five events and was second (65.5). West was last (8).

    In the girls’ events, sophomore Keyana Yeoman won the 100-meter hurdles (16.1 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (50.2)
