  • North Brunswick volleyball squad...

     The North Brunswick High School varsity volleyball team dropped its first two contests of the 2017 season.

    Coastal Christian High School defeated the Scorpions 25-8, 25-10, 25-18 in a three-game sweep Aug. 15 in North’s season opener.

    Alleigh Himes led North Brunswick with four kills, while contributing an ace and two digs.

    Jordyn Rascoe played a solid overall game for the Scorpions as she amassed nine digs and one ace, solo block and one block assist.

  • Stable weather produces great...

     As stated in many previous columns, weather patterns off our coast influence how good or bad the fishing will be. Particularly during the warmer months, rough weather will cause our targeted game fish to feed less. However, lately we’ve had stable, calm weather pattern, and fishing off the Brunswick County coast has improved dramatically.

  • West Brunswick dance team earns...

     The West Brunswick High School Dance Team was so impressive during team dance camp in Shallotte, it earned a bid to Orlando for next year’s national championships.

    The squad participated in a “home dance camp” in Shallotte as National Dance Alliance (NDA) instructors traveled to West Brunswick from July 23-27 to teach the team 13 dances in four days, dance team coach Michelle Davis said.

     Recently the board of directors of the Carol S. Petrea Youth Golf Foundation, Inc., held their annual retreat at the Carolinas Leadership Academy, which is located at The Golf Club at Cinghiale Creek.

    The Carol S. Petrea Youth Golf Foundation governs, leads and oversees the Brunswick County, Grand Strand and Eastern North Carolina First Tee programs.

  • Sheriff Ingram to host 6th...

    Brunswick County Sheriff Jon Ingram is hosting the 6th Annual Flatfish Roundup on Aug. 19 at the Southport Marina.

    There is an entry fee of $100 per boat.

    Several cash prizes will be awarded following the fishing competition including a $1,000 guaranteed award, the first prize for snagging the largest fish.

    The second prize is $700, which is awarded to the person who catches the second largest fish.
