SHALLOTTE — When Divina Mercado signed a letter of intent June 8 to attend Chowan University and play lacrosse, she became the fourth West Brunswick girl lacrosse player this year to use the sport to help get a college education.
“This is just the beginning,” West coach Kate Gentle said. “By the time my freshmen are seniors, I can only imagine that every single one of them will go to college and play lacrosse.”
Gentle is encouraged by information she is receiving from recruiting sites. Colleges have interest in lacrosse players.
