  • West places three on first-team...

     Waccamaw Conference baseball coaches selected three West Brunswick High School players to the all-conference first team: seniors Hunter Allen, Trey Brown and Bruce Clewis.

    Allen, a senior shortstop, batted .393 with 18 RBIs and one home run. He also led the team in hits (33).  He struck out two times in 84 at-bats. He stole 10 bases in 11 attempts. He was part of six double plays and his fielding average was .935.

  • Brandon Rankin getting NFL...

     West Brunswick graduate Brandon Rankin enters his senior season of football this fall as a defensive lineman/end for Washington State University, and NFL teams are assessing his talent—even from high school coaches.

  • West Darlings advance to Dixie...

    The West Brunswick Darlings have advanced to the North Carolina Dixie Softball state tournament.

    The Darlings (7- and 8-year-olds) qualified by winning the District 9 tourney over the weekend in Tabor City. The Darlings won a district that included Town Creek, Leland, South Columbus, East Columbus and Lockwood Folly.

  • Ocean Ridge wins first match of...

    Ocean Ridge captured first place in the season opening Coastal Carolina Interclub Association event played on May 26 at Magnolia Greens. At this event, the CCIA welcomed new members Crow Creek and Magnolia Greens to the CCIA. The other member clubs are Carolina National, Sea Trail, St. James, Ocean Ridge and Long Bay. 

  • Ocean Ridge plays couples’...

    The Ocean Ridge Sunday Couples League played its annual club championship tournament June 5, June 12 and June 19 on Panther’s Run, Tiger’s Eye and Lion’s Paw. Twenty-two couples participated. The overall tournament winners: gross score, Tom and Jeanne Oxenfeld, 148; net score, Carl and Carole Schuster, 113.

    Summertime fishing is here, but the good news is the inshore action has remained almost as hot as the weather, as long as you fish the mornings and evenings and avoid midday. Flounder have been the most consistent fish, but there are plenty of other species hitting if you want to go early or late.
