  • Time to stock up on lures and...

Not many people are wetting a line right now, since it’s just too darn cold for most folks to get out after the fish. There might be a few trout or drum around, but if there are, they’re pretty safe. Instead, local anglers are preparing for warmer weather and the inevitable burst of the spring fishing season.

  • Golf action

In a CFAG match Friday at Meadowlands, Ron Doeblin and Joe Gallo placed first with a 75. The two-man teams scored one net per hole. Placing second were John Ducey and Steve Maiorca.

  • Lauren Hunt: Beginning the hunt...

Several years ago, I watched a petite young lady pound balls on a practice tee. Her swing was classic, the balls flew long and straight.

The kid was cute, long brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, a wide infectious smile. I had a feeling I’d see her again.

    Last week, I did.

Lauren Hunt is still petite with that same winning smile, but she’s all grown up now. Done with high school and junior golf, she has graduated from the University of North Carolina, where she played on the women’s golf team.

  • Cold weather does not deter good...

I know all about cold weather.

I grew up in Chicago and I covered sports for two years in Wyoming.

    I know cold weather.

Living in North Carolina has spoiled me. When the temperature dips below 40 degrees, I pout. But cold weather does not deter athletes. It is one more challenge they are determined to overcome.

I saw that firsthand over the weekend.

  • VIDEO INCLUDED Seven West...

Seven West Brunswick football players made first-team All-Waccamaw Conference.

Coaches also selected six Trojans to the second team.

Perhaps the most versatile player on the team.
