  • BFA fundraiser Sept. 10 adds 10K...

    Brunswick Family Assistance, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families in crisis by providing emergency assistance and services, will host its 13th annual fundraising run on Sept. 10 at Sea Trail Golf Resort & Conference Center in Sunset Beach.

  • Brunswick beats Hope Mills, wins...

     Connor Durham struck out eight batters in five innings as the Brunswick Junior Dixie Boys baseball team routed Hope Mills 10-0 July 19 and advanced to the World Series.

    Catcher Jordan Flora hit a two-run home run to left field in the first inning and Durham drove in the game-winning two runs in the fifth in the game at Smithville Park.

    The World Series is July 30-Aug. 3 in Seneca, S.C., and for coach L.C. Pigott, this will be the fourth team he has taken to the event.

  • West Darlings play in state...

     The West Brunswick Darlings finished 2-2 in the North Carolina Dixie Softball state tournament July 9-12 at Cape Fear Optimist Park for players ages 7-8.

    West lost Duplin 10-9 to Duplin in the first round and then defeated Eden YMCA July 10.

    “Very good game,” coach John Caison said. “We had our hands full last night and won by 4.”

    After failing behind 5-0 against Dunn on July 11, the Darlings came back slow and steady and won 13-8.

    On July 12, the Darlings lost 17-4 to West Stanly.

  • West dance team stars at WFU camp

     Members of the West Brunswick High School dance team brought home three trophies and 45 blue ribbons for their effort at Universal Dance Association’s summer instructional camp at Wake Forest.

    The team spent four days at the campus in Winston-Salem and returned with the collection July 10. The girls won the 110 Percent Trophy, the Drill Down Trophy and the Superior Trophy for earning all blue ribbons.

    In all, 15 girls brought home 45 blue ribbons for individual evaluations on their dance routines learned at camp and one team full-out ribbon.

  • Brunswick West Debs finish 1-2...

     The Brunswick West Debs finished 1-2 in the North Carolina Dixie Softball state tournament July 9-12 at Cape Fear Optimist Park.

    The Debs’ first game was against East Columbus ended in a 6-3 loss. The game was originally going to be played against Montgomery County, but that team withdrew on Saturday.

    Hannah Stocks, the starting catcher for the Debs, led to her team to victory July 11 against Cherryville.

  • Brunswick North Debs second in...

     WILMINGTON—Meghan Barrett, the starting pitcher for the Brunswick North Debs, could have used some defense behind her as her team lost to Burgaw 6-0 in the championship game of the North Carolina Dixie Softball state tournament July 13 at Cape Fear Optimist Park.

    The game, played in 102-degree heat, was for the bid to go to the World Series July 29-Aug. 3 in Alexandria, La.

  • Brunswick teams advance in Dixie...

     The Dixie Boys (14-year-olds) and Junior Dixie Boys (13-year-olds) state baseball tournaments began Saturday at Smithville Park. Below are summaries of the Brunswick Junior Dixie Boys’ game Saturday and of the Brunswick Dixie Boys’ game Sunday. The junior tourney ends July 20 and the senior tourney ends July 21. Winners advance to the World Series. For the 13s, it is July 30-Aug. 3 in Seneca, S.C. For the 14s, it is July 30-Aug. 3 in Beaufort, S.C.
