West Brunswick High School had three winners in a 58-18 loss to Laney in the first conference dual of the season Dec. 3.

Two of the Trojans’ victories were by pin. Ted King won his heavyweight match in 22 seconds.

Deven Raune won his 152-pound match by pin in 2:15.

West’s other victory was by Joey Moreno at 171. In a match in which both wrestlers were on their feet for most of the time and constantly warned about stalling, Moreno won by disqualification with the score tied 5-5 in the third period.

The Lockwood Folly Men’s Golf Association played its red, white and blue tournament Dec. 5. Members who normally play from the white tees played three holes of their choice from each of the red, white and blue tees on the front and back nines. Members who normally play from the gold tees played three holes of their choice from each of the white, gold and red tees on the front and back nines.

The 2008 AKC Carolina Youth Challenge took place Nov. 8 in Hallsboro. Many youngsters from the county had entries in the challenge, and four of the entries won best of breed.

In the Black and Tan division, the winner was Roxy. The owner is Jeremiah Frazier, of Ocean Isle Beach. The handler is Ryan Michael.

In the English division, the winner was Bear Branch Booger Man. The owner is Thomas Inman, of Ash. The handler is Eric Anthony.

In the Plott division, the winner was Maple Gully Sissy. The owner and handler is Doogie Hewett of Supply.

To those who thought the North Brunswick High School junior varsity football team would be unable to repeat its county and conference champions, the Scorpions proved everyone wrong.

North completed another stellar season Nov. 6 when it beat West Bruswick 26-0. The victory completed a sweep of county teams (North beat South 34-20) and gave it a record of 9-1. The only loss was to Whiteville—ending an 18-game winning streak—and the two teams finished the season tied for first at 5-1 in the Waccamaw Conference.
