Dylan Bernier, co-winner of the Most Outstanding Wrestler award, helped lead the West Brunswick wrestling team to a third-place finish in the six-team Battle at the Beach Saturday at West.

Bernier finished 3-0 in the 119-pound weight class. One other West wrestler won his weight class: Will Edwards, 2-0 in the 152-pound class.

The only other Brunswick County champion was the Scorpions’ James Fitzpatrick, who finished 5-0 at 130 pounds.

The anticipation has been building over the past weeks as fishermen await the arrival of the giant bluefin tuna to our waters. Since 2005, these powerful and highly valuable fish have provided sport and much needed supplemental income to local fishermen. As this is still a new fishery to our area, every year the big question is, “I wonder if they’ll show.”

A celebration of an autumn softball championship evolved into a Christmastime donation drive for Hope Harbor Home.

When the Pipettes softball team won the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation softball tournament in October, the team sponsor offered to fund a victory party, said Pipettes’ player Jessica Winfree.

BOILING SPRING LAKES—South Brunswick’s girls lost 36-34 Friday night to Trask in a nonconference basketball game.

The young Cougars showed what they are capable of doing during the third quarter, when they erupted for 15 straight points against Trask’s starting five seniors.

“I’m proud of our girls,” South coach Chris Roehner said. “They learned more from tonight’s loss than from Monday’s victory. They are improving every game.”
