Major League Baseball recently had a nationwide audition for new versions of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.”

It received many interesting video entries, some displaying peculiar musical idiosyncrasies.

I, too, have been thinking about the many ways “Ball Game” can be sung. And I know the one person I wish were alive to play and sing it: Thomas “Fats” Waller.

To watch the average bass tournament, the outcome is so often decided on who finds the best stretch of bank. But what happens when the shallow bite isn’t there? Where do you go when the fish have closed the bank?

Besides being a wonderful sport that nearly everyone can play at any age, golf is a great social venue.

You might invite a friend to bowl or to play tennis with you, but you probably would not invite a friend to participate in your senior men’s ice hockey league. You might invite a friend to your club or neighborhood pool for the afternoon, but that visit would not involve swimming competitive laps. Imagine a basketball, football or baseball invitational tournament in which folks of all ages and abilities compete?

I think not.

SUPPLY—The construction of the athletic and aquatic center at Brunswick Community College has progressed so far you can almost hear children splashing in one of the two pools and see men and women exercising in the aerobics studios. You can imagine basketball players dunking basketballs in the gym and smell the pizza being sold at the concession stand.
