    BOLIVIA — Brunswick Community College beat Southeastern Community College 10-0 in five innings in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday, April 2, at Founders Field.

    Trey Schneider hit a two-run home run and Nolan Clenney hit a two-run home run. Clenney also singled and finished with three RBIs.

    Anthony Lombardo singled, doubled, walked and drove in a run. Ryan Clinch, Robby Kidwell, Markel Jones and Joe McDaniel each had one RBI. Nick Yarbrough had one of BCC’s nine hits.

    SHALLOTTE —  West Brunswick beat East Forsyth 2-0 and won the Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational baseball tournament March 30 on Mike Alderson Field.

    “Very proud of these young men,” West coach T.J. Spivey said. “Three days and working the tournament is a grind. To come focused, I’m very proud of them.”

    Winning pitcher and all-tournament selection Johnathan Carlyle gave up four hits and walked three. He struck out nine in six innings.

    West Brunswick lost 9-6 in 10 innings to East Columbus on March 30 in the title game of the Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational softball tournament at West Brunswick.

    West pitching gave up five hits but the Trojans made five errors.

    West fell behind 5-0 in the top of the first but scored five runs in the bottom of the third. A three-run home run by Savannah Branch tied the score.

    West Brunswick beat West Columbus 4-2 in a second-round baseball game of the Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational March 29.

    The victory advanced the Trojans to the title game at 7 p.m. March 30 at Mike Alderson Field.

    Winning pitcher Kevin Powers gave up two hits. Both runs were unearned. He walked one and struck out seven. West Brunswick made five errors in the victory.

    West Brunswick scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth in taking a 4-2 lead.

    West Brunswick batters struck out 10 times, walked three times and had five hits.

    SHALLOTTE — West Brunswick beat North Brunswick 2-1 in a first-round baseball game of the Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational on March 28 on Mike Alderson Field.

    West scored its two runs in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Zachary Johnson walked. With two outs, Austin Turner singled to right field. Johnathan Carlyle, on a 0-2 pitch, doubled over the right fielder’s head, driving in the winning runs.

    BOLIVIA — Markel Jones hit a team-record three straight home runs as the Brunswick Community College baseball team beat New River Community College 9-4 in nine innings in the Dolphins’ conference-opening game Friday, March 25, at Founders Field.

    Ryan Clinch hit a three-run home run in the Dolphins’ 14-hit attack. Nolan Clenney had two singles, a double and two RBIs. Kyle Mehl was 3-for-4. Austin Kline singled and walked. Houston Hamilton also had a hit. Nick Yarbrough had a hit and an RBI.

    SHALLOTTE — West Brunswick beat South Brunswick 11-4 in a conference baseball game March 22 on Mike Alderson Field.

  • Topsail beats West Brunswick in...

    HAMPSTEAD —Topsail improved to 7-0 as it beat West Brunswick 4-1 in a Mideastern 3A/4A Conference softball game Friday, March 25, at Topsail.

    “We got to make the routine plays,” West coach Joe Noble said. “We had five errors tonight, and all five of them were routine stuff. And that’s what cost them.”

    Topsail scored in the third on two singles and an errant throw by an infielder.

  • Trojans shut out Topsail in...

    SHALLOTTE — West Brunswick beat Topsail 1-0 in a Mideastern Conference girls’ soccer game March 24 between two class 3A teams.

    Junior midfielder Amberlee Fogel scored the goal with 25 minutes, 46 seconds left in the first half on an approximate 30-yard kick that crossed the goal on the fly.

    West was without three starters — Claire McNeil (Jefferson Cup), Monica Olivas (injury) and Mia Adcock (injury) — and West coach Brian Quinn praised Fogel’s play.
