  • Giordano earns player of the...

West Brunswick senior Hayley Giordano earned her women’s soccer team’s player-of-the-week honor after scoring three goals in the first two games of the 2018 season. Giordano netted a penalty-kick goal in a 3-1 win over Whiteville in the campaign opener before registering a pair of goals in a 6-0 road shutout over the Wolfpack. Mike Adcock, the squad’s head coach, selects the player of the week.

  • Wright’s solid effort not enough...

Landen Wright almost single-handedly carried the Scorpions to a 2-1 win over Topsail last week in which the senior left-hander struck out 13 batters.

He wasn’t that sharp in a 6-2 loss against Hoggard on Friday, March 16, but he wasn’t far from it.

Wright struck out nine batters and allowed just a pair of hits in six innings of work, but five North Brunswick errors proved costly in the loss.

  • Pigott does it all in 16-4 win...

SHALLOTTE – If you’re a pitcher for West Brunswick’s varsity softball team, it’d be easy to be overshadowed by standout Morgan Beeler.

The junior right-hander was a first-team all-conference performer last season and fired a no-hitter in her 2018 season debut two weeks ago against North Myrtle Beach (S.C.).

Taylor Pigott showed her team and everyone else in attendance that the Trojans have more than just Beeler in the bag.
