    BURLINGTON — The Brunswick Community College baseball team crushed Patrick Henry Community College 22-9 in the championship game of the NJCAA Division II Southeast District tournament May 16, a victory that qualified the Dolphins for the World Series.

    The World Series is May 28 to June 4 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Okla.

    This will be the Dolphins’ second appearance in the World Series. The first appearance was in 2013, a season that eventually led to BCC being put on probation because of an ineligible player.

  • North’s girls, boys win regional...

    North Brunswick girls’ and boys’ track teams won North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 2A East Regional championships Saturday.

    North’s girls scored 117 points, the only girls’ team to score more than 100 points.

    Currituck County was second (81). The Scorpions broke school records in the 400, 800 and 1,600 relays.

    Brother and sister Keandre Yeoman, a senior, and Keyana Yeoman, a freshman, won

    the 300-meter hurdles races.

    SHALLOTTE — The West Brunswick baseball team has reached the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 3A state playoffs.

    The Trojans beat Chapel Hill 10-0 Saturday in six innings on Mike Alderson Field.

  • BCC reaches final in World...

    BURLINGTON — The Brunswick Community College baseball team beat Wake Tech 11-3 in seven innings Sunday in a semifinal of the NJCAA Division II Region 10 championship baseball tournament.

    BCC was scheduled to play for the title Monday evening. If the Dolphins win, they advance to the World Series May 28 to June 4 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Okla.

    Against Wake Tech, winning pitcher Nolan Clenney gave up seven hits. He walked four and struck out nine.  

  • Corinth Holders ends West...

    SHALLOTTE — Corinth Holders beat West Brunswick 8-2 in the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 3A state softball playoffs Friday at West.

    West finishes the season 14-11.

    “They’ll get better,” West coach Joe Noble said about his team, which started one senior. “The maturity levels will rise. They’ll step up.”

    Corinth Holders is 13-10.

  • BCC wins opener in baseball...

    BURLINGTON —  Brunswick Community College opened the NJCAA Division II Region 10 championship baseball tourney by routing Surry Community College 12-2 in seven innings. Friday.

    BCC had 14 hits. Nolan Clenney was 4-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Markel Jones had a walk, a triple and three RBIs. Nathan Kuester was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Kyle Mehl was 3-for-4 with a double and  two RBIs. Ryan Clinch had a walk, a hit and an RBI. Anthony Lombardo was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
