    In a track and field meet April 20 with Hoggard and Laney, West Brunswick teams finished third.

    Individually, West Brunswick was 1-2-3 in the boys’ shot put: Taye Vereen (40 feet, 7 inches), LeGarick Jeffries (38-6) and Monty Stanley (37-3).

    Xavier Gause won the triple jump (42-10). Brandyn Parker was third (38-9).

    Gause won the long jump (20-7). Tyler Stanley was third (19-5.5.)

    Stanley won the high jump (6-2).

    Stanley was second in the 100 (10.89 seconds) and Tariq Thomas was fourth (11.40).

    SHALLOTTE — West Brunswick senior Randaisa Daniels signed a letter of intent April 20 to accept a scholarship to attend Johnson C. Smith University and play softball.

    “My main reason I picked Johnson C. Smith is because it is close enough for home visits if I get homesick,” he said. “And they have a really great athletic program.

    “I plan to study biology. I want to be a dentist.”

    West Brunswick won 10-0 in a five-inning baseball game April 19 at Laney, West’s 17th straight victory this season.

    West had nine hits and five walks. Johnathan Carlyle was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Tyler Stanley had two RBIs. Owen McDowell was 2-for-3. Tristan Lewis stole three bases. Cam Davis walked twice and scored twice.

    Winning pitcher Dylan Jeffries, a freshman, gave up one hit in five innings. He walked one and struck out three.

    SHALLOTTE — West Brunswick beat Hoggard 10-2 Friday in a Mideaastern 3A/4A Conference baseball game on Mike Alderson Field.

    West’s 16th straight victory this season improved the Trojans to 6-0 in the conference, 17-1 overall.

    Johnathan Carlyle was the winning pitcher. He gave up four hits in six innings and two runs (one earned). He walked two and struck out six. Reliever Greg Noll struck out two batters. West made two errors.

    The Trojans scored in the first on a home run to right field by Tristan Lewis.

    LELAND — North Brunswick seniors Tasia Bolling and Jade D’Louhy signed letters of intent Friday to attend Johnson C. Smith University and play softball.

    “Great girls, probably two of the hardest-working kids I’ve had,” North coach Brittney Lehrschall said. “Probably two of the most coachable kids I’ve had.

    “We put them all over the field, and they have done quite a bit — successfully.”

    SHALLOTTE — Myah Morse threw a no-hitter as West Brunswick beat North Brunswick 10-0 in five innings April 14.

    Morse walked three batters, hit two batters and struck out eight.

    “That’s by far the best game she’s thrown all year,” West coach Joe Noble said. “I’m proud of her. It comes at the right time. Topsail lost last night in the conference, so that means if we win out, we win the conference. It’s good time for her to start throwing (like that).

    Staff Report

    The Brunswick Community College baseball team rallied from deficits of 10-1 and 12-4 to beat 17-12 Louisburg in a non-region baseball game April 13 at Founders Field.

    BCC scored nine runs in the bottom of the eighth inning in taking the 17-12 lead.

    A three-run double to right field by Nolan Clenney cut the lead to 12-11.

  • Cameryn Smith on Queens’...

    The Queens University of Charlotte women’s golf team won the South Atlantic Conference championship tournament April 13, the first SAC title for the program.

    West Brunswick graduate Cameryn Smith, a freshman, is a member of the championship team.

    The Royals shot a final-round 313 and finished at 938, four strokes ahead of

    2015 conference champion Carson-Newman College. The tourney had 11 teams.
