  • Grossi wins Sea Trail Charm...

    In the Sea Trail Charm Tournament April 8 at the Byrd Course and April 10 at the Jones Course, Kathy Grossi finished first with a two-day total of 130, winning the gold charm. Joan Mason was second (136) and won the silver charm.

  • Crow Creek plays member tourney

    On April 2-3, the Crow Creek MGA played a two-day member-member tournament for 20 two-man teams. In cool weather, the golf skills exhibited by most of the participants were red hot. The format for the first day was a shamble, which combines elements of a scramble with elements of two-man best ball.
    As in a scramble, both players of a team tee off and the best drive is selected. From that point, the hole is played out at stroke play, with both players playing their own ball into the hole. The format for the second day was a scramble.

  • Future Generations Tourney set...

    On June 1, The First Tee of Brunswick County will be host of its third annual Future Generations Tournament on all four golf courses of the St. James Plantation. Its success and your participation will help shape the future of the many kids who are participants in The First Tee of Brunswick County.

  • Cameron, Edwards win Ocean Ridge...

    The Ocean Ridge Ladies Golf Association played its spring member-member tournament April 3 and April 8 on Panther’s Run and Lion’s Paw. The format was nine holes each of captain’s choice, duck soup, alternate shot and better net of partner.

  • Vintage racing series open...

    In the first race of  the Bell & Bell Vintage Modified Racing Series, Cameron Norris III finished first Saturday at Carolina Speedway. Jeremy Cumbee was second and Pete Corey third.
    Formerly known as the Cape Fear Classic Auto Racing Show, this series began in June 2009. In June 2010, the Bell & Bell Vintage Modified Racing Series began. The club president is Bobby Williamson, owner of Bobby’s Auto Parts in Shallotte.

  • Ocean City Chevrolet donates to...

    The youth baseball season has begun, and this season Ocean City Chevrolet is sponsoring Shallotte Dixie Youth Baseball League and the Waccamaw Athletic Association. As part of the national Chevrolet Youth Baseball program, Ocean City Chevrolet will provide new equipment to the leagues and will make a monetary contribution to each league.
    In addition, there will be invitations to free instructional clinics and an opportunity for community members to enter the Chevrolet vehicle sweepstakes to have a chance to win a new 2013 Traverse or Malibu.

  • Trojans beat West Bladen 9-0 in...

     West Brunswick beat West Bladen 9-0 in 33 minutes, 37 seconds April 17 in Shallotte. Carla Zio scored three straight goals, giving her 28 for the season. Karson Lewis and Taylor Oakes each scored two goals. Lewis has scored 11 goals this season. Amanda Davinson and Somer Milliken each scored a goal.

    West is 6-2 in the conference.

  • Make adjustments during April...

    Our first week of great weather came to a screaming halt Friday morning. We had our first good low-pressure system dump several inches of rain on us very fast. We needed the rain, but getting it all at once can really make backwater fishing a challenge.

  • West alumni basketball tourney...

    The inaugural West Brunswick Alumni Basketball Tournament is May 18. Six teams will compete in a double-elimination tourney that starts at 10 a.m. at West. Tickets are $2; no admission charge for those younger than 12. There will be door prizes. Souvenir T-shirts are $10. Net proceeds benefit West Brunswick basketball programs.
