     BOILING SPRING LAKES - North Brunswick’s varsity football team could have rolled over several weeks ago as lopsided losses and injuries have mounted for head coach Darren Willis’ young team.

    Instead, the Scorpions battled through all kinds of adversity and emerged victorious in a rivalry game on Friday, Oct. 13, at Jack Campbell Stadium against South Brunswick.

    The Cougars entered the game with a 3-4 record and 2-1 ledger in conference play, coming into the contest on the heels of two consecutive league victories.

  • Trojans drop final three regular...

     The West Brunswick High School varsity volleyball team concluded its regular season with three consecutive losses as it dropped a pair of conference games and a non-league game at South Columbus last week.

    Laney defeated the Trojans in a conference game Oct. 12 in Wilmington. The Buccaneers claimed a victory over West Brunswick in its regular season finale.

    West Brunswick traveled to Wilmington on Oct. 10 for a league game against Ashley, which finished the regular season atop the Mideastern 3A/4A Conference standings.

     The South Brunswick and West Brunswick women’s golf teams competed in a conference match Oct. 3 at Carolina National Golf Club in Bolivia.

    The Cougars secured a fifth-place finish, while the Trojans claimed a sixth-place standing in the team event.

    Laney, for the fifth time in as many matches, captured first place.

    Players finished 18 holes on the 4,548-yard, par 72 track.

     Hunter Campbell, a competitor on the North Brunswick High School wrestling team, captured first-place honors in his weight class at the I-64 Challenge, a national tournament. North Brunswick’s Joel Del Rio and Justin Alveraze also competed in the event. Del Rio and Alveraze each finished the tournament with a 2-2 record.

  • Cougars sweep cross country...

     The South Brunswick High School varsity cross country teams ran out of Wilmington with a pair of wins Sept. 28 at Olsen Park.

    In a cross country meet that pitted South Brunswick against county rival West Brunswick, Ashley and Laney high schools, the Cougars emerged victorious by two points in the girls’ meet over Ashley and by one point in the boys’ meet over Laney.
