One of the interesting aspects of coaching golf is that every week I am lucky to meet new people who come from various backgrounds and ways of life. Recently I have been teaching a very successful barbecue truck owner, a state legislator, a retired tennis player, a high school language teacher, a police officer, and most recently a postman who has a passion for building golf clubs.

  • Fishermen welcome Kingfish Cup...

    By Capt. Derek Treffinger

March can be an extremely fickle month both with fishing and weather. Many of the local fishermen call this month and April transition months because of how much changes within the fishing world between the last cold front and that first day your car air-conditioner is on full blast. Typically, local fishermen spend their time maintaining and upgrading their boats yet eagerly wait for the next calm day to make the run to the Gulf Stream.

  • Breaking barriers to playing golf

    By Darren deMaille

For many reasons, people are intimidated to take up the game of golf. I relate it to myself as if I were to take a dance class, which is completely out of my element. I know nothing about dance. Putting myself on showcase on a dance floor in front of other people is not something that would be comfortable for me to do.

For this reason I understand why people are intimidated to play golf or take a lesson. We have to get out of our comfort zone sometimes and put ourselves out there to experience different things and bring more enjoyment to life.
