Agents bust indoor grow operation

Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit recently busted an indoor grow operation in Leland.

On Dec. 8, drug agents received information leading to an investigation at 1128 Lexington Ave. As a result, drug agents seized more than 100 marijuana plants, which totaled 9 pounds, as well as paraphernalia consistent with an elaborate indoor grow operation, Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram said.

Brooke Vanhorn and Jason Sykes were arrested and charged. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are likely.

Brooke Lanien Vanhorn, of 1128 Lexington Ave., Leland, was charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture, selling and delivering a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Vanhorn was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center, where she was placed under a $20,000 secured bond.

Jason Dale Sykes, of 1128 Lexington Ave., Leland, was charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture, selling and delivering a schedule VI controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sykes was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center, where he was placed under a $20,000 secured bond.
