The Roosevelt and Ruth Marlow Memorial Park project was recently selected by NC Beautiful, WRAL-TV5 and Capitol Broadcasting to receive a prize of 50 azaleas.

The award is part of NC Beautiful’s 32nd annual Azalea Celebration that rewards North Carolina community organizations for improving their communities through creative landscape projects.

The park and playground at 5200 Essie Lane in Ash was established in memory of a Brunswick County couple, Roosevelt and Ruth Marlow, who loved family and were dedicated to the education of children in the Little Prong community. They once farmed the land and later donated it for a park.

“We are so grateful with the awarding of these plants, which will provide further enhancement and beautification of this play space where children and families are encouraged to visit, play and be active,” Terri Hyman, volunteer and president of the foundation, said in a news release.
