BCC wins volleyball opener

 BOLIVIA — The Brunswick Community College volleyball team beat the St. Andrews’ junior varsity 25-15, 26-24, 25-9 Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

BCC has a new coach this season, Justin Hoskins, and the Dolphins played before an enthusiastic crowd of many fellow student-athletes.

Morgan Sullivan served the Dolphins to a 10-4 lead in the first game and the Dolphins controlled the rest of the game for the victory.

In the second game, St. Andrews had a 23-20 lead and was serving, but an errant serve led to a sideout. Meeka Hewett, using a jump serve, hit two aces and a service winner for a 25-24 and held serve for the game-winning point.

The Dolphins dominated the third set, as Alyssa Carter served BCC to a 16-3 lead. With the lead 20-8, Courtney Morris held serve for four points for a 24-8 lead. She hit an ace in the run, Carter scored a point and Hewett scored two points.

In the first game, Hewett had three kills. Courtney Morris had eight assists.

Morgan Sullivan had 10 service points, with two aces. Ashlie Yoder had five digs.

In the second game, Sullivan had four kills. Morris had eight assists. Hewett finished with five aces. Sullivan had four kills and seven digs. Yoder had five digs.

In the third game, Carter had 10 service points, with five aces. Morris had seven service points and Yoder five. Hewett and Morris each had three digs. Hewett had three kills.

In the second game, Sullivan had four kills. Morris had eight assists. Hewett finished with five aces. Sullivan had four kills and seven digs. Yoder had five digs.

In the third game, Carter had 10 service points, with five aces. Morris had seven service points and Yoder five. Hewett and Morris each had three digs. Hewett had three kills.
