The Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team presents STARS—Striving to Achieve Results. This is for girls and boys ages 4-12 and meets 6-6:45 p.m. Tuesdays, November through February at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center on the BCC campus. The fee is $25.
The mission of the program, coordinator and head BCC women’s basketball coach Ashlyn Burke said, is to give children of any basketball skills level “the opportunity to become a fundamentally sound player on the court and a better person off the court.”
The fundamentals of STARS basketball is on ball handling, passing, shooting, defense, and rebounding. STARS offers instruction by BCC women’s basketball players.
“As a Lady Dolphin, it is important we are involved in the youth of Brunswick County,” Burke said. “Our team wants to provide motivational and inspiring opportunities for young people through developing basic basketball skills.”
In addition, participants get camp discounts, a T-shirt, free entry to games, halftime performances at the BCC men’s basketball games and an end-of-season party.
