The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.
The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.
The ACE Team works on speed reduction and DWI enforcement within Brunswick County and surrounding counties in cooperation with multi-agency traffic safety grant funded programs.

ACE deputies patrolled the following communities: Holden Beach Road, Supply, Calabash, Bolivia, Maco, Shallotte, Boiling Spring Lakes, Mount Misery Road, Leland, Winnabow, Southport and Ash.

Deputies set up checkpoints at U.S. 74-76 at Alligator Creek Bridge, River Road at Orton Plantation and Ash-Little River Road.

From May 2-8, ACE deputies issued 91 total arrests and citations, including one driving while impaired charge, 17 no operator’s license citations, 37 speed violations, one possession of drug paraphernalia charge, one possession of marijuana charge, five driving while license revoked charges, 11 expired registration charges, seven inspection violations, one seatbelt violation, three careless and reckless driving charges, one open container charge, one no insurance charge, one unsafe tires charge, one headlight violation and two firearm by a felon charges.

Phillip Brice, 36, of 870 Oakley Trail, Bolivia, was charged with driving while impaired.
