CALABASH--Town commissioner Jody Nance has rescinded his board resignation he made during a monthly board meeting last week. Nance said Monday he has decided he will not be resigning from the board after all following a meeting Monday morning with Calabash Mayor Mary Knight to discuss his resignation and their issues and differences. After the meeting, the two agreed to jointly send out a press release from town hall. “During [Monday’s] discussion, they found common ground and decided to jointly work through their differences for the betterment of the citizens of the town,” reads the press release issued Monday by Calabash Town Clerk Kelley Southward. The press release is signed by Knight and Nance. Nance’s resignation came as the town board was going into closed session to discuss personnel issues following its open monthly meeting Dec. 13. Knight, who had just been sworn in as mayor following her election Nov. 8, said Nance handed her a handwritten note as the board was convening into the closed session. Knight said the note stated Nance was stepping down from his seat because of personal matters. After handing Knight the note, Nance left town hall and did not attend the board’s closed session. Rather than announce the contents of the note, Knight said she publicly announced following the closed session that Nance had to leave the meeting and was not excused by a vote of the board, therefore he was considered present. Knight said she wanted to have a chance to talk to Nance first.
