CIS Big Toy Day another success

-A A +A

To the editor:
Communities In Schools of Brunswick County (CIS) would like to thank the Brunswick County Airport Commission for partnering with us for the 5th annual Big Toy Day on Saturday, May 18.
We couldn’t have been more pleased with the turnout from the community. Local businesses and municipalities turned out with their “toys” and let the kids climb all over them. The mission of CIS is to surround students with a community of support to empower them to stay in school and achieve in life.
This event gave children the opportunity to meet men and women who enjoy working in a variety of fields and is sure to have inspired more than a few. It would not have been possible without the support of CIS board members, staff, volunteers and their families and friends.
Sponsors included the Brunswick County Airport Commission, Cumulus Broadcasting, ATMC Wireless, BEMC, Gregory Poole Equipment Co., Kona Ice, Kidsville News, The Brunswick Beacon, The State Port Pilot, Murray Custom Framing and Signs, Waste Industries, Walmart Transportation 6840, Golf Cart Outlet, Rent-a-John, St. James Plantation, Shoreline Comfort Systems Heating & Air Conditioning and Party of Two.
Students from CIS Teen Court program participated as face painters, game coordinators and setup crew. Members of Southport-Oak Island Kiwanis and the St. James fire/police made sure parking was safe and accessible. Airplane rides were made possible with the help of the Brunswick County Airport Commission, EAA Chapter 939 Young Eagles Program and the Civil Air Patrol.
A special thanks to those who attended the event to share a special and memorable day with their families.
