Father, son arrested after pharmacy robbery

A father and son were recently arrested on several criminal charges.


Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. April Stanley said sheriff’s deputies responded to a robbery just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Remedy Shop Pharmacy, 925 Seaside Road in Sunset Beach.

The following day, detectives arrested James Hegedus, Sr., 41, of 7171 Westbrook Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, for his role in the robbery.

His arrest led to the arrest of his son, James Michael Hegedus, Jr., 18, on a misdemeanor breaking and entering charge.

James Michael Hegedus, Sr., was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering, felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver as schedule II controlled substance and two counts of trafficking in opium or heroin.

He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center, where he was placed under a $100,000 secured bond.

James Michael Hegedus, Jr., of 1839 Spruce St., Holden Beach, was charged with one count of breaking and entering. He was also taken to the detention center, where he was given a $500 secured bond.
