RE:  First Friday Gallery Walk, Friday, October 5th, 5 to 7pm

Lantana's Gallery will be featuring Connecticut based aerial and fine art photographer Jim Cordes.  Jim's large scale impressionistic and aerial works have not yet been seen in our area.  He has an eye for capturing an abstracted view of tidal movement in waterways from the air - and he has recently found inspiration in the Cape Fear region.

Mr. Cordes has been a photographer for over 30 years.  His repertoire ranges from an 8x10 large format view camera in the studio to hand held field cameras for journalism work.  He added flying to his toolbelt and has become a specialist in low altitude aerial photography.  Through personal travel and freelance jobs for the likes of National Geographic, Time, and Fortune, he has photographed across the United States, Singapore, and Hong Kong.  He is currently devoting his time to creating limited edition art prints.  All works showing at Lantana's Gallery will be hand printed, signed, large format photographs.  Framed or unframed work will be available.

A commercial photography venture brought Mr. Cordes to Southport, initially, and he found inspiration for further fine art works while visiting.  Asked why Southport, Mr. Cordes said,  "Southport is part of an amazing coastal area, the people are warm and take pride in their town.   There are deep harbors, islands, and sandbars that move like dunes under water.  I want to show the area from early dawn to sunset, something of people going about their business.  I've tried to capture what someone who's lived here would recognize, and provide some fresh impressions that might surprise and bring a smile."  He may even include some aerial views of our local power companies!

Collectors, photography enthusiasts, restaurants, and businesses should not miss this display of unique, coastal, Southport artwork.  Jim Cordes has exhibited in Maine and New York City, and now his work is available in Southport, NC.  His work is in corporate and private collections.
