Free community conference is May 31

Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter will host a free community conference on “Doing What Matters,” from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Odell Williamson Auditorium, on the campus of Brunswick Community College, 150 College Road NE, in Bolivia.

The free conference includes breakfast snacks, complimentary lunch, and educational and motivational resource materials.

Featured speakers will include David Rendall, who will get the audience laughing as he encourages everyone to embrace their “Freak Factor: Discovering Uniqueness by Flaunting Weakness;” Jen Johnson, who will talk about “The Art of Living Mindfully,” and Shawn Hessee, a motivation speaker who will talk about, “Rolling Through Adversity.”

The conference will encourage participants to invigorate, self-examine, determine their strengths, and appreciate their uniqueness.

Rendall will discuss how weaknesses can lead to strengths; Johnson is  amindfulness-based stress reduction teacher; and Hessee, who is also a comedian, will share his experience of living with cerebral palsy and being confined to a wheelchair as a result of being born premature to a mother addicted to drugs.

In between these inspirational speakers, short video clips will tie these messages together and encourage attendees to reflect on their meanings.

Local community members will share their own personal and powerful testimonies on how to make every moment matter.

Register by May 24, by calling Jason Clamme, community outreach director, at 910-796-7943 or email Jason.clamme@lcfh.org.
