Winning images will be used in seat belt use campaign

The Brunswick Beacon is sponsoring a poster contest to help spread the message of wearing seat belts.

The contest is open to people of all ages, but children are most strongly encouraged to participate.

“In October, we lost seven people on Brunswick County roads in vehicle crashes,” managing editor Stacey Manning said. “We know how very dangerous our roads can be, and we want to do our part to try to save lives. Our campaign to promote seat belt usage is one small way we can do that.”

The rules for the contest are simple:

•All posters must be on a standard poster board.

•All designs, wording and content must be unique and created by the submitting artist.

•The back of all posters must have the following information: Name of artist, age, mailing address and phone number.

•All posters must be created around the theme of promoting seat belt usage.

•All posters must be mailed or hand-delivered to the Beacon’s office. The mailing address is P.O. Box 2558, Shallotte, NC 28459. The Beacon’s physical address is 208 Smith Ave., Shallotte. The building is across the street from the post office.

•Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.

Entries will be on display in the Beacon office through the contest period. A panel of Beacon judges will select the winner(s). The winning artist will get a story in the Beacon, along with their photo and display of the winning image.

“We would love to turn the winning poster into a representation of our seat belt campaign and would like to work with local law enforcement officials throughout Brunswick County to find ways to share the image and its important message with others in the community,” Manning said.

The Beacon will retain the rights to the winning image and may publish it in future public service advertisements, as well as in the newspaper and other Beacon-sponsored publications and events.

“We’re really excited about giving people the opportunity to show off their creative talents, while sharing an important message with our readers,” Manning said. “While the message of using proper safety restraints in vehicles is important year-round, it’s particularly so during the holiday season.”

The Beacon office is open from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call Manning at 754-6890 or email editor@brunswickbeacon.com.
