Get responsible or get fined

-A A +A

To the editor:
I read Mr. Sappenfield’s letter in the May 3 edition of the Beacon with both interest and frustration. Lock up 5-year-olds for digging holes on Sunset Beach? Of course not. I’m sure their concerned parents will fill them in before leaving.
As for the large holes left on the beach, people need to get responsible or get fined. As a surf fisherman, I could not disagree more with the letter writer. I’ve gone out of my way to be on the beach early, only to have people (adults, children, family groups) set up camp directly in front of me. Whether this is just plain ignorance or total disregard for their own safety, I do not know. I do not understand the allure of swimming where someone is obviously fishing. Am I supposed to move because you decided to show up?
Seems a little common sense and courtesy would go a long way on the beach.
