The Leland Area Rotary Club’s inaugural “LA Classic” Golf Tournament, played April 14 at Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Leland, raised nearly $3,900 in net proceeds that will benefit Communities in Schools of Brunswick County, the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross and Rotary International’s $200 million challenge to eradicate polio worldwide.

“When we decided to organize this tournament, we did so because we wanted to give back to the community,” said Tommy Wallace, golf committee chairman for the Leland Area Rotary Club. “We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of community support that made this tournament a success and allows us to make our community a better place.  We owe a debt of gratitude to our sponsors, volunteers and those who played in the tournament.”

“Our golf committee did an excellent job organizing this tournament,” said George Murray, president of the Leland Area Rotary Club. “This was our club’s first golf tournament, and thanks to our golf committee’s hard work and the community’s support it was an overwhelming success. We look forward to building on that success in years to come.”

The Leland Area Rotary Club was chartered in early 2010 and serves northern Brunswick County. For more information about the Leland Area Rotary Club, visit www.lelandarearotary.com.
