Leland commissioners go extra mile to support Gateway project

LELAND—Leland commissioners went the extra mile to show they support their Gateway project despite voting against implementing it in February.

At the March 21 town meeting, the town board voted in support of the Gateway three times and will hear the rezoning proposal again at the April 18 meeting.

The Gateway project is based on rezoning Leland’s downtown gateway district from the U.S. 17 exit along Village Road and into the surrounding area using Flexcode zoning.

The town approved the use of Flexcode zoning in 2011 to promote mixed-use development.
