Local Cape Fear swimmers achieve time standards

Three county swimmers in the Cape Fear Aquatic Club achieved USA Swimming national age group time standards in the first meet of the indoor season.

Lucas Kuhn, in the boys’ 8U, and Teddy Johnson, in the boys’ 10U and McKenzie White in the girls’ 10U, met the marks in the three-day meet hosted by the Waves of Wilmington Swim Club.

Kuhn was seventh in the 25-yard butterfly (22.55 seconds), eighth in the 25 freestyle (19:21), eighth in the 25 backstroke (24.79) and 15th in the 25 breaststroke (31.72).  These were personal-best times.

Johnson was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:33.74), sixth in the 50 breaststroke (45.85), ninth in the 50 butterfly (43.07), 10th in the 100 IM (1:33.74), 10th in the 50 backstroke (43.96), 12th in the 50 freestyle (36.26) and 16th in the 100 freestyle (1:20.77).

White was sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:41.58), 10th in the 100 IM (1:32.82), 12th in the 50 butterfly (41.60) and 16th in the 50 breaststroke (49.95).

Twelve county swimmers compete for the Cape Fear Aquatic Club: Jordan Crute, Sarah Shepard, Rachel VanNoordt, Stephen Seeber, Lauren Johnson, Georgia Mintz, Myles Williams, Declan Hall, R.J. Thomas, White, Kuhn and Teddy Johnson.

The next competition is 9:30 a.m. Oct. 23 at the Dinah E. Gore Aquatics Center on the BCC campus.
