Mother Nature yet controls Jinks Creek

To the editor:

When Mannon Gore platted Sunset Beach island with 50-by 90-foot lots, he had in mind cottages, not castles. He had in mind fishing skiffs and small boats, not 30-foot Grady Whites and yachts. The finger canals were designed to give cottage owners access to the marsh for fishing and crabbing with skiffs and small, shallow draft boats. And until the ‘80s, the island and its good fishing and crabbing remained open to these small craft launched from homes or from Sunset Boulevard.
