Shallotte Inlet open for business

-A A +A
By Brant McMullan, Fishing Correspondent

The beach renourishment program that has been ongoing at Ocean Isle Beach has scored a double whammy. A monstrous dredge from Great Lakes Dredging Company has dug a swatch approximately 100 feet wide by 12 feet deep all the way through Shallotte inlet.  The sand was pumped onto the beach to build up the beach front and protect the valuable island property from further erosion.  That’s nice and all, but as a fisherman, the big win is what is now a brand new, grade-A inlet cut.
