Jayhlen Washington has added a pair of accomplishments to an already sterling track and field career.

The former North Brunswick star who claimed 18 individual state titles in outdoor and indoor track and field state meets as a member of the Scorpions captured the long jump and triple jump titles at the Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships two weeks ago in Greensboro.

Washington, a member of the Cape Fear Flyers, claimed titles in the long jump (23-11) and triple jump (50-11.5), in his last attempt in both events.

The event, which was at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Belk Stadium, pitted the best young track & field athletes from across the country.

Washington capped his meet with a victory in triple jump. He opened with a 47-0.75 and followed with a 48-11.75 before eclipsing the 50-foot mark in his third and final try.
