  • McLeod Health to host blood drive Oct. 11

    The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Center for Health & Fitness in Loris, S.C., on Thursday, Oct. 11.

    Blood donors must present two forms of identification, be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. To schedule an appointment, go to redcrossblood.org.

  • Brunswick Sheriff’s Charitable Foundation fish fry set for Aug. 23

    The Brunswick Sheriff’s Charitable Foundation will host a fish fry Thursday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the county government complex in Bolivia, in front of the emergency services building.

    This event helps raise money for the foundation’s Sunshine Fund, which supports Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office employees who experience hardship.

  • Communities In Schools Back to School Supply Drive

    Communities In Schools of Brunswick County and CIS Thrift Shops are hosting their annual CIS Back to School Supply Drive during August. Supplies will be collected at all four CIS Thrift Shops and the CIS main office.

  • SCC to have quarterly networking meeting Aug. 2 in Leland

    The Services Coordinating Council (SCC) will elect officers and finalize plans for its second annual Expo and Free Health Day, set for Sept. 29, at its next quarterly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Leland Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive in Leland.

    Visitors can meet representatives of area nonprofits, governmental agencies, secular and religious groups that work to provide benefits and support to struggling residents in northern Brunswick County.

  • BFA schedules Christmas in July walk-in days and commodities distribution

    Brunswick Family Assistance Christmas in July back-to-school program has walk-in days scheduled for Aug. 1-3 between 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

    Clients must have proof of income and expenses for every household member. A Social Security card or Medicaid card is required for all children in the home. The program provides all necessary school supplies, a backpack and a new suit of clothes and shoes to all eligible children in Brunswick County.

  • Sea and Sand fundraiser July 27 to benefit BFA

    Brunswick Family Assistance is sponsoring a Sea and Sand fundraiser Friday, July 27, from 6 to 10 p.m. at 101 Stone Chimney Road in Supply.

    The Sea and Sand Band will provide live music for dancing. Cash bar and sandwiches.

    Tickets are $18 per person. Call 754-4766 by July 18.

    All proceeds benefit Brunswick Family Assistance.

  • ‘Dream Bigger with the Arts’ workshop

    The Roosevelt & Ruth Marlow Educational and Recreational Foundation, in partnership with Godwin’s Life Coaching and the Brunswick Arts Council, will host a “Dream Bigger with the Arts” workshop Saturday, July 14, at the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce in Shallotte.

    This two-hour session will help participant kick-start goals while having fun creating art.

    Onsite registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Registration fee is $7 and includes lunch and a vision board kit.

  • Helping Hands fundraiser/cruise-in benefit June 23

    A Helping Hands fundraiser/cruise-in will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Rourk Garden on Main Street in Shallotte, across from Jerome’s Steakhouse.

    Hot dogs, fried bologna sandwiches, chips and drinks will be sold to raise money to offset medical and other expenses for Jim Hans, owner of Jim’s Automotive on Holden Beach Road.

    Hans’ business has been closed for more than a month while he battles cancer and pneumonia.

  • Tide Dye Tuesdays begin in Holden Beach

    Tide Dye Tuesday is held weekly on Tuesdays through Aug. 14 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Holden Beach Pavilion, except for July 10 when it will take place at Bridgeview Park.

    Shirts are $5 each for youth XS-adult XL and $7 each for adult 2XL. All supplies are included.
