  • McLeod to host blood drive in Loris, S.C.

    McLeod Loris Seacoast is hosting a blood drive at the Center for Health & Fitness at 3207 Casey St. in Loris, S.C., on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.

    People can donate a pint of blood every 56 days. Blood donation requirements include a minimum weight of 115 pounds and minimum age of 17. A 16-year old can donate blood with written parental consent. There is no upper age limit for donating blood.

  • American Legion Post 550 to meet Dec. 12

    Shallotte American Legion Post 550 will meet Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Sunnyside School at 221 Village Road in Shallotte.

    All members and those thinking about joining are encouraged to attend.

  • VFW Post 8866 to present ‘Unsung Heroes of World War II’

    Holden Beach Post 8866 will begin its 2017-18 educational presentation series Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hadnot Hall at 573 Sabbath Home Road in Supply. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.

    Frank T. Stritter, professor emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a member of VFW Post 8866, will present “Unsung Heroes of World War II: Too Little, Too Late?”

  • BLT auditions for ‘The Vagina Monologues’

    Brunswick Little Theatre will conduct auditions for its first production of “The Vagina Monologues,” to be performed Feb. 2-4, 2018.

    Based on Eve Ensler’s play of the same name, “The Vagina Monologues” has grown into a worldwide phenomenon in an attempt to end violence against women and girls. For this inaugural year, BLT will partner with Coastal Horizon’s Rape Crises Center to bring TVM Southport to life.

  • BLT to hold auditions for ‘Hot Mikado’

    Brunswick Little Theater will soon have auditions for “Hot Mikado.” Production dates are scheduled for June 14, 15, 16, 17 and June 21, 22, 23, 24.

    Auditions will be on the Brunswick Little Theatre campus at 8068 River Road in Southport in classroom 1B behind the main building. Because the comedy “The Savannah Sipping Society” will begin at 7:30 in the main building Dec. 9, do not enter the theater as the actors will be preparing for the night’s show.

  • BTS offers free Dial-A-Ride for toy donations

    Donate a new, unwrapped toy for Toys For Tots through Dec. 15 and receive one free round-trip Dial-a-Ride from Brunswick Transit System.

    Round-trip ride must be scheduled within Brunswick County and scheduled 48 hours in advance. Free Dial-A-Ride has no cash value.

    Toys can be dropped off at the Brunswick Transit System office or given to one of its drivers.

  • NCBLC chapter turkey giveaway Dec. 14

    The Bolivia Brunswick County Chapter of the North Carolina Black Leadership Caucus (NCBLC) is partnering with Wal-Mart in Leland to give away more than 100 turkeys, stuffing, cranberry sauces and yams to needy families with children and low-wealth seniors Dec. 14 at the store from 4 and 7 p.m.

  • Teen Court scheduled for Nov. 28

    The next session of Brunswick County Teen Court will be Nov. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brunswick County Courthouse. Brunswick County Teen Court is a partnership program between Communities In Schools and the Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office, made possible through financial support provided by the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and Brunswick County Schools.

  • Civil Air Patrol sponsors Wreaths Across America

    The annual Wreaths Across America campaign is coming to a close. Nov. 15 is the last day to place an order. The Wreaths Across America campaign is an effort to place a holiday wreath on every veteran’s grave in every national cemetery worldwide Saturday, Dec. 16, at noon. This is a very public event and all are welcome to attend and help place wreaths on graves after the ceremonies.

  • Brunswick County Toastmasters open house Nov. 7

    Brunswick County Toastmasters will have an open house Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Brunswick Electric Membership Corp., 795 Ocean Highway W., Supply.
