  • Community invited to Brunswick Novant Medical Center sneak preview

    The new Brunswick Novant Medical Center will open its doors to the community for a free sneak preview event on Saturday, July 16.
    A ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 1 p.m., and tours will be from 1-4 p.m., hospital spokesperson Amy Myers said.
    Participants will have the opportunity to tour the new hospital and see Brunswick Novant Medical Center’s special features and services first-hand.  The hospital is set to open for patients approximately two weeks later on Sunday, July 31.

  • Brunswick County DSS honors foster parents, others; seeks more homes for local children

    Each May, Brunswick County DSS salutes the people who make a difference by serving as foster parents, relative caregivers, mentors, advocates, social workers and volunteers. Thanks to these unsung heroes, many formerly abused or neglected children and teens will either safely reunite with their parents, be cared for by relatives, or be adopted by loving families.

    Pesticide Applicator Recertification classes will be available at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, Brunswick County Center, Training Center, Building N at the Brunswick County Government Complex on July 21 and Aug. 17.

  • Dinah Gore inducted into Hall of Fame

    Dinah Gore was inducted into the North Carolina Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Hall of Fame during the FCS centennial celebration on Wednesday, May 25, at North Carolina State University’s Jane S. McKimmon Center in Raleigh. Gore is one of 25 inductees into the first class of the FCS Hall of Fame.

    Sanderson joins Martha Lee

    Martha Lee has announced that Jeanette Sanderson has joined Martha Lee Realty as a new broker in the Ocean Isle Beach Office. A native of North Carolina, she recently became a coastal girl when she moved from Cary to Holden Beach. She enjoys traveling the Intracoastal Waterway and taking in the local sights from the water. Her next venture is the open seas for some fishing.

    ATMC adds HD channels

    ATMC Cable has added Nickelodeon HD and Comedy Central HD to its growing high definition channel lineup. Nickelodeon HD is on channel 917 and Comedy Central HD is on channel 948.

    Both are available at no extra cost to customers who subscribe to an Expanded Basic Package or higher and a HD receiver or DVR with a HD television. The addition of these two new HD channels brings the high definition lineup to a total of 65, with more coming soon.
