  • Pietrafesas celebrate 50th anniversary

    Marilyn Tully and Len Pietrafesa were married June 22, 1968, in Bloomfield, N.J.

    They met in Chicago and after marrying, moved to Corvallis, Ore., and then to Seattle. They settled in Raleigh, where they raised three daughters.

    Since they retired — Len from N.C. State and Marilyn from Wake County Public Schools — they moved to Ocean Isle Beach and Charlotte, where they spend their time golfing, traveling the world and enjoying their four grandchildren.

  • Liles-Lancaster wedding

    Lauren Hillary Liles and Tyler Morris Lancaster, both of Raleigh, were united in marriage Saturday, May 19, at Shady Wagon Farm in New Hill.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Van Liles Jr. of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Ned W. LaFevers and the late Doris LaFevers and the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Van Liles Sr., all of Morganton.

  • Behroozfard graduates from basic training

    Air Force National Guard Airman 1st Class Armand Behroozfard, son of Rachel Behroozfard of Leland, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

    Behroozfard completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Swains to celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

    Whit and Betty Swain of Sunset Beach will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary June 4. Married at the United States Naval Academy’s chapel on graduation day 1958 when Whit was commissioned into the Air Force, they have enjoyed their life together as they took on the responsibilities of family and the military life with all that entails, moving 22 times in 35 years of service.

  • Reese Graves collects wish list items for her birthday

    Reese Graves, daughter of Matthew and Danielle Graves, requested to collect wish list items for her birthday for the Duke Cancer Center’s Caring House. The Brunswick Community College Odell Williamson Auditorium assisted in the collection in honor of Michael Sapp, auditorium director. The OWA patrons and her birthday party attendees provided a vanload of toilet paper, paper towels and plastic cups for the Caring House. Reese is a rising kindergartner at Southeastern Christian Academy and is a member of Sharon United Methodist Church.

  • Mary Eagan celebrates 95th birthday

    Mary Eagan of Arbor Landing at Ocean Isle turned 95 on May 3. A party was hosted in her honor April 28 by her children in Oyster Harbour, Holden Beach, where one daughter resides. She has seven children, 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. More than 67 members of her family attended. Her birthday was also celebrated at lunch in Arbor Landing and at Planet Fun where she plays bridge every Friday.

  • Carlyle, Long celebrate birthdays

    Pastor Stephen Nobles and the Sunshine Sisters of New Britton Baptist Church in Ash celebrate the 85th birthday of Norbit Carlyle and the 86th birthday of Alice Long.

  • Terry graduates from basic training

    Air Force Airman Jonathan G. Terry, son of John R. Terry and Stacy Wallace of Oak Island, has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas.

    Terry completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Leduc graduates from basic training

    Air Force Airman Collin M. Leduc has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas. He is the son of Robert Leduc of Southbury, Conn., and Laura Nelson of Lansing, Mich., and brother of Molly Ennis of Ocean Isle Beach and Ryan Dent of Lansing.

  • Newly crowned 2018 Miss Brunswick County Queens

    Crowned on March 17, from left are Little Miss Caitlin Byrd, Junior Miss Anabel Lopez, Brunswick County Outstanding Junior Miss Natalie Space, Miss Brunswick County Ashlynne Lowery, Teen Miss Vannessa Herold and Little Mr. Brunswick County Adam Weaver. The director of the Miss Brunswick County Scholarship Pageant is Gail Register.
