• Harllee earns Eagle Scout

    Austin Watson Harllee of Boy Scout Troop 705 and son of Bryant and Elizabeth Harllee of Southport received the rank of Eagle Scout at his Court of Honor on Feb. 2. Harllee is the youngest in his family and the youngest in his troop to receive the highest honor in Scouting. He shares this rank with his brothers Bryson and Cameron.

    He landscaped, made signage and installed underpinning to the existing handicap ramp at Cape Fear Alliance Church. Many friends, church members, youth group and scouts turned out to help make the project a success.

  • Hipp-Cheek

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Samantha Leigh Hipp and Clifton Lawrence Cheek, both of Sunset Beach. The bride-elect is the daughter of Amanda and Benny Hipp Jr. of Ocean Isle Beach. A graduate of UNC-Charlotte, she works as a risk manager for Bank of America. The prospective groom is the son of Larry and Cherri Cheek of Ocean Isle Beach. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill and now works as broker-in-charge at Resort Brokerage of Ocean Isle Beach. A fall wedding is planned in the Caribbean.

  • Cottrell birth

    Sabrina Varnam and Davis Cottrell of Morehead City are the proud parents of a son, Chandler Davis Cottrell, born at 6:24 a.m. Nov. 26, 2013, at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 19-1/2 inches in length.
    Maternal grandparents are Ronald and Jenice Varnam of Varnamtown.
    Paternal grandparents are Kenneth and Sue Hicks of Raleigh and Ken and Sousin Cottrell of Rural Retreat, Va.
    Great-grandparents are Pearl Stump, Bea Varnam, Tabatha Barbour and Kenneth Cottrell Sr.

  • Dameron

    Bobby and Crystal Dameron of Leland are the proud parents of a daughter, Addyson Pearl Dameron, born at 5:09 p.m. Nov. 21, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center weighing 6 pounds, 5 ounces and measuring 19 inches in length.
    She joins a sister, Ayden, 4.
    Maternal grandparents are Bobby and Teresa Tindal of Shallotte.
    Paternal grandparent is Mona Dameron of Bolivia.
    Great-grandparent is Mary Lewis of Shallotte.

  • Farmer anniversary

    Frank and Sherry Farmer of Sunset Beach say “I Do” again on their 25th wedding anniversary Tuesday, Oct. 29, on the beach at Sunset Beach.
    Helping to celebrate their special occasion were close friends Mike and Terry Downey and Wayne and Kathy Gregory.

    Kiersten Marie Fleming and Jacob Taylor Bell, both of Columbia, S.C., were married Sept. 14 at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte.
    The Rev. Richard Vaughn officiated the ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Candace and Gerald Fleming of Alpharetta, Ga.
    The groom is the son of Sandra and Robert Bell of Matthews.
    The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father.
    She wore a Casablanca gown with a mermaid fit and carried a bouquet of white and light pink flowers.
    Maid of honor was Courtney Fleming.

    Kristi Marie Putrino and Michael James Guyton were married Aug. 31 at Traditions at the Glen in Johnson City, N.Y.
    The Rev. Jose Valenchi officiated the ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Anthony and Suzanne Putrino of Endicott, N.Y.
    The groom is the son of Lana Caudill of Ocean Isle Beach.
    The bride was escorted by her father.
    Andrea Thomas, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor.
    Bridesmaids were Karen Putrino, sister-in-law; Nicole Putrino, cousin; Kristen Ferraro, Kathy Medionte and Jefferi Hudson.

  • Lewis-Streaks

    Judy Kathleen Lewis and William Charles Streaks, both of Supply, were married Sept. 28 at Holden Beach Chapel.
    Jared D. Smith officiated the ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of J.P. Lewis and Lena Olive McLamb.
    The groom is the son of Stanley John Streaks and the late Dorothy Alice Streaks of Hilton Head Island.
    The bride was given in marriage by the family.
    She wore a beige gown with beaded top and jacket and wore a wide-brimmed picture hat. She carried a bouquet of pink and white roses with baby’s breath.

  • Hooker anniversary

    Al and Johanna Hooker of Ocean Isle Beach celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Joe Bonczek. They were married Sept. 4, 1948, at St. Sylvester Parish, Staten Island, N.Y. He is a former detective with the New York City Police Department and served in the Navy for six years. She was a secretary to the director of nursing at a doctor’s hospital. The couple has four children, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

  • Wargo anniversary

    Dick and Alice Wargo of Brick Landing Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a cake at their home after champagne and dinner at La Cuccina restaurant. She even kept the cake topper for 50 years. They were married Oct. 5, 1963, in Warren, Ohio. He worked for Republic Steel and she sold real estate for 25 years while raising their three sons. They have two grandchildren. The couple spent their honeymoon in Myrtle Beach and plan to relive the experience by walking on the beach as they did many years ago.
