• Arthur Armstrong

    Arthur Armstrong, 77, of Southport, died May 27 following an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

    He was born on March 17, l933 in Wilkinsburg, Pa.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, The Rev. Dr. Arthur Russell and Geralda McBride Armstrong; brother, W. Scott Armstrong; stepmother, Elizabeth Cottrell Armstrong; his grandparents, William Ross and Julia Armstrong and the Rev. Dr. F. Scott and Geraldine McBride.

  • Jimmy Dameron

    Jimmy Earl Dameron, 70, of Bolivia, died May 20 at his home.

    He was born Nov. 8, 1938 in Whitestone, Va., a son of the late Otis Earl and Emma Lois Hutchinson Dameron. He worked as a supervisor for Verizon Telephone.

    Surviving are his wife, Maria Teresa Miller Dameron; three sons, Roger Allen Dameron and wife Debra of Charlotte, Ronald Earl Dameron and wife Marianne, of Lutz, Fla., and Robert Michael Dameron and wife Crystal of Leland; a daughter, Catherine Lyn Allen and husband Richard of Crofton, Md.; a sister, Joy Temple Jones of Phoenix; and seven grandchildren.

  • Margaret Skripek

    Margaret Duane Skripek, 90, of Supply, and Lehigh Acres, Fla., died May 24, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla.

    She was born Feb. 8, 1919 in Gutenberg, N.J., a child of James and Mary (Lembert) Duane, sister of Francis Xavier Duane.

    A resident of Supply for the past 12 years, she formerly lived in Toms River, N.J. and was employed as a salesperson in the clothing industry. She was a member of the Lockwood Folly Woman’s Club.

  • Malcolm Stellmacher

    Malcolm P. Stellmacher, 79, of Calabash, died May 24.

    He was born in Montrose, Mich., on April 15, 1930.

    He was a retired Flint, Mich., police officer and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M.

    Surviving are his wife, Sharon; daughters, Lisa Bontempo and husband Steve and Marci Holder and husband Michael; son, Frank Zimmerman and wife Shiela; daughters, Debby and Denise Shriner of Michigan; sister, Pat Lupfer of Douglas, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren,

  • Virgel Roddy Jr.

    Virgel Franklin Roddy Jr., 49, of Bolivia, died May 18 at his residence.

    He was born Feb. 24, 1960 in Florence County, S.C., a son of Virgel Franklin Roddy Sr. and Harriett Brasington Roddy. He was a retired pipe fitter and welder.

  • Jeri Eisbruckner

    Jeri Ann Eisbruckner, 62, of Longwood, died May 22 at her residence.

    She was born in Charleston, S.C., on Oct. 18, 1946, a daughter of the late Julius and Lydia (Morris) Judy and was the wife of Robert Eugene Eisbruckner.

    For many years, she was the restaurant manager at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

  • Joseph Arbuso

    Joseph A. Arbuso, 79, of Little River, S.C., died May 22.

    He was born Nov. 12, 1929 in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Joseph and Stella Spainer Arbuso.

    He was a master heating technician for 45 years and a member of Today’s Harvest Church.

    Surviving are his wife, Jean Dima Arbuso of Little River, S.C.; one son, Michael Arbuso (Aileen) of Longs, S.C.; one daughter, Jeanne Westphalen (John) of Virginia; and numerous grandchildren.

    Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, in the chapel of Lee Funeral Home.

  • Helen Grier

    Helen Tucker Grier, age 81, of Southport, died May 22 at Ocean Trail Nursing Center in Southport.

    She was born April 27, 1928 in Stanly County to Craven Tucker and Annie Alice Tucker. She was a homemaker. She moved to Southport in 1993.

    She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport and was actively involved the Marie Royal Circle and Emmaus. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.

  • James Hewitt

    James Richard Hewitt, 53, of Rocky Point, died May 24 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

    He was born in Beaufort, S.C., on Oct. 1, 1955, a son of the late James C. and Mamie Holden Hewitt. He was a welder.

    Surviving is his sister, Lisa Gore of Supply.

    A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at the chapel of Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Service, 1411 N. Howe St., Southport, with the Rev. Eddie Hill officiating.

  • Richard Herrington

    Richard Lynn Herrington, 22, of Southport, died May 24.

    He was born in Sanford on Oct. 4, 1986, a son of Charles “Chuck” Herrington of Southport and Elizabeth Connelly and stepfather Vince of Southport.

    He moved to Southport from Sanford nine months ago. He was a certified firefighter and medical responder. He was a student at Brunswick Community College in the Basic Law Enforcement Training Class.

    He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, four wheelers and motorcycles.
