    Sloane Realty rated top franchise

    Coldwell Banker Sloane Realty was recently rated the No. 1 Real Estate Franchise, based on worldwide sales, for the eighth year in a row, according to a news release.

    The 2007 Franchise Times’ annual Top 200 issue also named Coldwell Banker 12th overall among 1,000 franchises spanning many different industries.

    Coldwell Banker was the only real estate firm in the Top 20.

    Peters named employee of month

    Sea Trail Golf Resort & Convention Center named Norma Peters as its November Employee of the Month at a celebratory function recognizing all nominees.

    The nominees were: Peters, Sonia Taylor, Mary Bryant, Natalie Brown, Debi McGrath, Peggy Barnett, Melody Melanson, Elizabeth Dominguez-Marin, Elizabeth (Betsy) Melanson, Alex Diaz, Patti Dugan, Georgia Bland and Karen Peters.

  • Restaurants receive health grades

    Environmental health specialists with the Brunswick County Health Department inspected and graded local restaurants and other food establishments during the past month.

    Grades are based on a perfect score of 100, with points taken away for infractions of state health standards. A score of 90 or better represents an A; 80-89, B; 70-79, C. Establishments with a score below C would not be allowed to operate. Establishments which have two scores during the same inspection period have been regraded at the management’s request.

  • Growth in occupancy income expected to continue in 2008 but may slow down

    A research firm is predicting a modest slowdown in the U.S. lodging industry this year—a 4.5 percent gain in revenue per room over the previous year. It is the slowest growth pace in five years.

    In a news release, PKF Hospitality Research forecast a .7 percent decline in occupancy levels and a 5.3 percent increase in average daily room rates, resulting in the 4.5 percent gain.

    It’s the slowest pace of growth since the industry began recovering from the 2001-2003 industry recession, the news release states.

  • ATMC completes wireless site

    ATMC has announced the completion of another ATMC Wireless transmission site.

    This newest site, in Calabash, will improve signal coverage from Bonaparte to Calabash, Carolina Shores and the business and residential areas of Calabash from Persimmon Road to the NC/SC state line.

    Apart from providing dramatically improved signal strength and call quality, new wireless towers are equipped with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) technology.
