  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From Dec. 12-13, K-9 deputies patrolled the following areas: Tall Pines, Brunswick Plantation, Brunswick Forest and the Village of Calabash. K-9 deputies also set up driver’s license checkpoints at Pireway Road and Northwest Road.

    K-9 deputies four drug arrests. The following suspects were charged:

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the past week. Information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Police charged Joseph Ivan Cortes, 23, of 2270 Mill Branch Road, Ash, with resisting arrest. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county. The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Watts Road in Ocean Isle Beach; suspect broke into victim’s residence and stole money and a firearm.

    •Property damage on Blackwell Road in Leland; suspect drove vehicle through victim’s fence.

    From Dec. 12-13, K-9 deputies patrolled the following areas: Carolina Shores, Magnolia Greens, Compass Point and Sunset Harbor. Driver’s license checkpoints were set up at Beach Drive, Ash-Little River Road, Gilbert Road and Mount Misery Road.

    K-9 deputies issued 15 citations and made 12 drug arrests. The following suspects were charged:

  • District Court Docket

    The following cases were adjudicated over five days of District Criminal Court on Dec. 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8 in Bolivia.

    Wednesday, Dec. 2

    Judge Jerry A. Jolly presided over the following cases with prosecutor Cathi Radford and courtroom clerk Jennifer Hearn:

    John Adams, assault and battery, voluntarily dismissed.

    Emily Morgan Amos, reckless driving to endanger, hit/run fail to stop property damage, both voluntarily dismissed.

    Phil Arroyos, second-degree trespass, voluntarily dismissed.

  • Sunset Beach police investigate vehicle break-ins

    SUNSET BEACH—Police investigated three vehicular break-ins reported Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 in the Sea Trail Drive West area.

    An 18-volt DeWalt drill and Craftsman drill bits were reported stolen in one incident. Change was reported stolen in the other two break-ins.

    The vehicles had been left unlocked at the time of the break-ins, a town police department spokesman said.

     

  • District Court Docket

    The following cases were adjudicated over three days of District Criminal Court on Nov. 25, 30 and Dec. 1 in Bolivia.

    Friday, Nov. 25

    Judge Marion R. Warren presided over the following cases with prosecutor Cathi Radford and courtroom clerk Lisa Quick:

    Eustol Aguillon-Prado, no operator’s license, paid.

    William F. Barfield, exceeding posted speed, voluntarily dismissed.

    Katherine E. Bickley, fail to wear seat belt/driver, $25 and costs.

    Christopher T. Blanton, driving while license revoked, voluntarily dismissed, complied.

  • Grand jury returns indictments

    The Brunswick County Grand Jury under the direction of Judge Ola Lewis with prosecutor Rex Gore and courtroom clerk Michelle Warth returned the following indictments during a Superior Court session on Nov. 16:

    Jeremy Phillip Bryant, 25, of 1800 Grissett Road, Shallotte; two counts felony assault with deadly weapon government official.

    Stephen Eric Buchanan, 25, of 285 Centenary Church Road, Mt. Ulla; felony financial card fraud, felony financial card theft.

  • OCEAN ISLE BEACH CRIME REPORT

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated larceny at Marathon on Causeway Drive last week. According to the police report, the suspect shoplifted a $1.50 can of beer.
